Approach
When we become emotionally overloaded, we tend to get stuck in behavioral patterns that are maladaptive and at times destructive. As a psychotherapist, I will help you to identify your strengths and help lead you to your own solutions. We will do this together by tapping in to the strengths you already possess and teaching you skills to enhance these strengths.
Change can be challenging and rewarding. Crisis is sometimes a beautiful opportunity for change and growth. One is not typically inspired to change emotionally when life is comfortable no matter how maladaptive. Therefore, making the decision to participate in therapy may be the most difficult yet rewarding step you make in inspiring change for yourself.
My experience with cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectic behavior therapy, and solution focused brief therapy can help to guide and support you through any challenges you are currently wrestling with or have struggled with in the past.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy
Cognitive behavorial therapy (CBT) looks at one's thoughts and how they are related to behaviors. The goal with CBT is to recognize one's thoughts and how they may help or hinder an individual's current situation.
Dialectic Behavior Therapy
Dialectic behavior therapy focuses on improving and enhancing four skills: mindfulness practice (the practice of being fully aware and present in this one moment), distress tolerance (how to tolerate pain and distress in a difficult situation when you cannot change it), emotional regulation (learning to manage them in challenging situations) and interpersonal effectiveness (how to ask for what you want and establish boundaries while maintaining self respect and relationships with others).
Solution Focused Brief Therapy
Solution focused brief therapy focuses on recognizing and activating solutions to struggles you may be experiencing from past or current trauma. It is thinking about solutions that would bring on realistic, reasonable relief as quickly as possible.
